Paulsen Votes to Protect Boundary Waters

Press Release

Date: Nov. 30, 2017
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Erik Paulsen (MN-03) released the following statement regarding his opposition to H.R. 3905, which threatens Minnesota's Boundary Waters Canoe Area by not providing it with the same environmental protections that other National Forests receive. The legislation also tosses aside more than 100,000 public comments and stops a current environmental review of copper-sulfide mining. And, it would weaken the Antiquities Act, a conservation tool used on a bipartisan basis by 16 presidents since 1906 to protect our nation's history.

"The Boundary Waters is Minnesota's Yellowstone, and as a national treasure, its waters need to be protected," said Congressman Paulsen. "I want to make sure the Boundary Waters is preserved for future generations to enjoy without compromising standard environmental practices or its natural beauty."

Congressman Paulsen, a champion of small business and advocate of free enterprise, entrepreneurship, and innovation, serves on the House Ways and Means Committee, the bicameral Joint Economic Committee, and is co-chair of the Congressional Medical Technology Caucus.
